Make Your Own Virtual Marathon Course: Queens

As New York's hometown airline and the official airline of NYRR and the TCS New York City Marathon, United encourages runners to support local businesses in their communities, and we do so as well. United encourages you to shop locally and add photos of your favorite restaurants or local shops along your training route.

Our (virtual) tour of the five boroughs continues this week as the Virtual TCS New York City Marathon itself starts in less than one month. This week, we're crossing the East River from the Bronx into Queens. With 108 square miles of land, Queens is the largest borough in New York City, and it's one of the most diverse areas in the United States with more than 130 different languages spoken among its residents.

In addition to the NYRR Queens 10K, Queens is also home to five NYRR Open Run sites, tied with its neighbor to the south, Brooklyn, for the most of any NYC borough. Check out Astoria Park, Cunningham Park, Crocheron Park, Baisley Pond Park, or Flushing Meadows Corona Park if you're looking to add in a few park loops along your virtual race course.

As for the Virtual Marathon, this week we're looking for recommendations on places in Queens that you would include on your 26.2-mile route.

We've included some initial tips from NYRR staffers on the map below, and if you have any ideas for places to add to the map, send them in using the form below the map! We'll be adding more as we receive them throughout the week, so check back soon for more places to see in Queens.

Next week, we'll be covering Kings County, the borough of Brooklyn, so get your responses ready!
