Make Your Own Virtual Marathon Course: Manhattan

As New York's hometown airline and the official airline of NYRR and the TCS New York City Marathon, United encourages runners to support local businesses in their communities, and we do so as well. United encourages you to shop locally and add photos of your favorite restaurants or local shops along your training route.

NYRR Virtual Racing Powered by Strava enables you to make your own course as you race over a set distance anytime, and practically anywhere, that you want, "alongside" a global community of runners.

In the case of the Virtual TCS New York City Marathon, you won't be able to recreate the exact experience of the in-person Marathon, but now's your chance to run 26.2 miles through some places our five-borough course doesn't cover.

Sure, there's nothing that compares to the excitement of the in-person race, but we can still get creative with our Virtual TCS New York City Marathon course designs.

So to get you excited for your virtual marathon, we're starting a project to help runners like you plan out your virtual course, and to highlight some parts of the five boroughs that might not be featured on that 26.2-mile route we've been using since 1976.

To start, we're looking for where you would run in the borough of Manhattan.

Do you have a favorite loop around a park, or a favorite spot along that loop? How about a restaurant to pop-in for a quick refuel? (Taking the order to go, obviously, as per city guidelines.) Or, really, anywhere within the borough that has significance to you. You've got a window of eight hours to finish, so you can make a day of it if you'd like!

Check out some ideas from NYRR staffers on the map below, and send us your recommendations using the form below the map. We'll be updating this post with highlights from your recommendations throughout the week, and next week, we'll cover the borough where New York Road Runners got its start back in 1958: The Bronx!
