As a New York Citybased nonprofit, we’re dedicated to transforming the health and well-being of our communities through inclusive and accessible running experiences, empowering all to achieve their potential.

Our History

During its nearly 70 years, New York Road Runners has grown from a local running club to the world’s premier community running organization, producing more than 60 adult and youth races each year, including the TCS New York City Marathon.

New York City Marathon History

The first New York City Marathon took place in 1970 and was held entirely in Central Park with 127 entrants and 55 finishers. In 2024 over 55,000 participants crossed the finish line. The Virtual TCS New York City Marathon has thousands of finishers annually from around the globe.
