Break Through / Break Down
For the final activity you will create your very own finish line tape, but we will be using today’s finish line as a symbol of breaking down racial barriers that members of the Black community in our country and around the world endure every day. Then we’re going to break through the tape to represent coming together to stand up against racial injustices.
Check out the video below to learn more from Olympic medalist Jenny Simpson and Paralympic medalist Rudy Garcia-Tolson!
Your finish-line tape can be made from any household items. Use paper, grocery bags, cereal boxes, or anything else that may work. On your finish tape, write down what you want to break through and stand against in the future. Get creative and do not forget to share a video of you breaking your barrier on the Rising New York Road Runners Facebook group.
