  • Group Training

Liz is an RRCA and USATF Level 1 certified coach whose first experience with running was being cut from her high school track team. She found her stride running local road races on the Jersey Shore and has run dozens of races from one-mile to the TCS New York City Marathon and in the surrounding areas since 2011. She has been involved with Back on My Feet since 2012 and saw firsthand how running empowers and changes the lives of people experiencing homelessness and now serves on the Young Professionals Board. She leads her neighborhood running group, Ridge Runners, and has been coaching Group Training in Prospect Park since 2019. She especially loves working with runners who are new to the sport or returning from a break, and nerding out on running books and podcasts.

What program do you coach?
NYRR Group Training

How would you describe your coaching style?
I don't sugarcoat the challenge of training for a goal race, but you can count on me to be unfailingly positive and always believe in our athletes. Also, a dry sense of humor and puns help.

What is your proudest coaching moment?
The "firsts. "Anytime someone runs their first 5K, half marathon, marathon, whatever the race, I'm proud of however small of a role I played in getting them to the finish line.

What is your favorite workout to coach and why?
Hill workouts, because I think those are tough on athletes mentally and when doing it as a group, it is incredible to watch everyone push each other to the top.

Please list any awards, achievements, or certifications below. This can be sports and/or coaching certifications.
RRCA Level 1 USATF Level 1 CPR/First Aid/AED

Where is your favorite place to run in New York City?
The Shore Road Promenade in Bay Ridge

What is your favorite NYRR race?
Washington Heights Salsa, Blues, and Shamrocks 5K

What is your personal running motto?
"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run." - Forrest Gump. This captures the myriad of reasons why I run, why our athletes run, and how just one "little run" leads to an amazing journey.
