Craig Astreicher

Craig Astreicher has been running for over 20 years. He initially ran as a way to lose weight and develop a healthy lifestyle. Now he has developed a passion for running and wants to help others as a coach. Craig really enjoys the sense of camaraderie and support that the running community provides to all.

Craig ran the 2012 NYC Half as his first race and has participated in many races since then. He started Group Training in July 2017 as a trainee to help improve his running ability. Craig enjoys the internal competitive nature that sport provides to all of us. He believes that we get a sense of accomplishment when we push ourselves to a personal best.

What languages do you speak?
English and Spanish

How would you describe your coaching style?
I like to adapt my coaching style to the type of runner. I like to provide individual running cues that they should be thinking about as they go. I think it is important to understand what your running goals are. I like to take holistic approach to their habits outside of running which could affect their performance.

What is your proudest coaching moment?
My proudest coaching moment was when one of my runners told me that I changed the way they run. The change in their form has improved their running performance and health.

What is your favorite workout to coach and why?
What is your favorite workout to coach and why? 5 x 1000-meter repeats—I feel it is a tough workout and pushes the trainee. It helps with training for short and middle distances.

More than 4 years

What is your favorite place to run in New York City?
The bridle path in Central Park

What is your favorite NYRR race?
TCS New York City Marathon. I love the community support during the race.
