Resolve to Run in 2023

With running and racing back to full scale, we can all resolve to make movement a key part of our lives in 2023.

What does that mean for you? Whether it’s going for your first run or taking a big swing like running a half-marathon or marathon, we’re here to help!

Here are just a few ways you can engage with NYRR events, people, and programs as you work toward your running goals in the year ahead. Happy New Year and happy running!

Start 2023 on the Right, and Left, Foot at the Midnight Run

Make your first activity of the year the 4-mile NYRR Midnight Run in Central Park. The countdown to 2023 begins at 11:59 p.m., and at the stroke of midnight, a fireworks display will light up the sky and kick off the race start! Sign up today.

Run the Virtual NYRR Resolution Run 5K Powered by Strava

Start the new year feeling strong and empowered! Run for free anytime, anywhere from January 1 through 8 alongside thousands of other runners around the world – then use that motivation to keep moving and stay healthy. Learn more and register.

You can also sign up for the Virtual United Airlines NYC Half, set for March 11–19.

Kick Off Your 9+1 by Signing Up to Race and Volunteer

NYRR races happen all year long, all over NYC. Check out our January–April calendar and sign up now for distances from 5K through the half-marathon.

You can also register to volunteer at an upcoming event. NYRR members who finish nine qualifying races and volunteer at one event are eligible for guaranteed entry to the TCS New York City Marathon the following year. Learn more. Volunteering early in the year can pay off later in the year, when volunteer opportunities may reach capacity.

Train for the United Airlines NYC Half

This premier race, set for March 19, is The One to Run with a spectacular course through Brooklyn and Manhattan. You can train anywhere in the world with NYRR Coaching Lab by Runcoach and get expert coaching and camaraderie. In the NYC area, NYRR Group Training speed workouts and weekend long runs offer a coached in-person option. Learn more about all our training offerings. 

If you still need an entry, you can run with a charity or an International Tour Operator; learn more on the race page.

Apply to Run the RBC Brooklyn Half

2022 RBC Brooklyn Half course

Another premier race and one of the country’s largest half marathons, the RBC Brooklyn Half goes from the Brooklyn Museum to Coney Island on May 20. The application window is December 14 through January 11, with a drawing on January 18. Visit the race page to learn about entry options, training, and more.

Train with Us Virtually or In Person

No matter what your running goals or current fitness, you can join NYRR Coaching Lab, a customizable virtual training program that will provide guidance, structure, and accountability to set you up for success. Choose a race-specific program or 3-month, 6-month, or 1-year time-based plan.

NYRR Group Training is our NYC-based in-person training program with speed workouts, tempo runs, and long training runs all over NYC. New sessions start in January and the program runs year round.

Run or Walk for Free with Your Neighbors

Want to run or walk in free community runs in a park near you? Open Run offers free, weekly community-led fun runs and walks in neighborhood parks across all five boroughs. It’s open to runners and walkers of all ages, abilities, and experience levels – dogs on leashes and babies in strollers are welcome, too!

Get Your Kids Running

Rising New York Road Runners, our free flagship youth program, gets kids moving to help them develop lifelong physical and social-emotional skills. We offer free opportunities through schools as well as runs and races year round in conjunction with our adult races to get the whole family moving! Check out opportunities to get guaranteed entry to premier races around the world while raising funds to support NYRR's youth and community programs. TFK entries for the TCS New York City Marathon are full, but you can still sign up with TFK for other Abbott World Marathon Majors races, including the Berlin Marathon. Learn more.
