NYRR Large-Scale Racing Is Back

It’s been a minute, right?

If you’re like many people, you haven’t seen a starting line in a while. Now, with the relaxation of rules around large outdoor gatherings, we runners have a green light to return to large-scale racing, while continuing to adhere to protocols designed to keep us safe.

We have four exciting races open for registration. We're thrilled to bring back longtime favorites and introduce new ones.

These races have registration caps and are filling quickly—sign up soon! More races will be opening in the coming weeks, so keep checking our website.

Here’s what you can expect—and please check our Safety Procedures and the race pages linked above for more details. Keep in mind that our guidelines are based on local, state, and federal health protocols and are subject to change. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

You’ll stay safe. Our #1 priority, always, is to protect you. That’s why we’re continuing to comply with all health protocols: Face coverings are still required at the start, finish, and other areas like bag check (you’ll see us wearing them, too), social distancing is enforced, and you’ll start in very small groups.

You can remove your face covering on the course if you wish. "That was a great feeling, today, to pull my mask down and breathe freely while I ran," said Amy Ko-Tang, who raced the Newport Mile in Jersey City on May 23.

You’ll be in good company. If you haven’t raced in a year or longer, you’re not alone. Many runners are returning to racing for the first time in ages and are thrilled and excited to be back. “It’s just what we’ve been waiting for, for such a long time," said recent race finisher Ismael Torres. "Getting up early and getting ready for something you haven’t been getting ready for in a long time—that anticipation was great.”

The "new normal" may pleasantly surprise you. For now, our races maintain staggered starts and social distancing in the start area and on the course. But with planning, you can start with friends (or very close to them) and experience the thrill of striving together and pushing one another to a great finish. Piera Forestieri ran the Newport Mile with her coach, David Dorsey. "It was great to be back in a race with other runners and to really push myself more than I would on my own," Piera said. David added, "The energy is always enormous with NYRR!"

You’ll feel all the feels. Even with the altered experience, your race will get you jazzed up—we promise! “Coming back to race with New York Road Runners is incredible," said recent race finisher Vivian Duran-Moy. "Just to see familiar faces and have that feeling at the start and seeing the clock counting—gosh, it’s amazing!"

Your kids can race, too. The Girls Run at the Mini and Rising New York Road Runners at the Prospect Park Mile are awesome opportunities for youth. Sign up your kids and bring them along to shake out their pent-up energy!

You’ll be appreciated. We at NYRR are deeply grateful to all of you. We know it’s been an unbelievably tough year and we’ve all had to deal with so much more than changes to our running lifestyles. Thank you for continuing to be a part of our running family.
