Good Running News of the Week

Hello, and welcome back to another edition of Good Running News of the Week. We at New York Road Runners hope you are staying healthy, and we hope something here makes you smile today. Summer is just beginning, but we are diving straight into the dog days here with an extra helping of cute canine content.

A radiology tech ran the NYRR Virtual Brooklyn Half on May 13 in honor of frontline workers. 

Courtney Dredden Carter wrote about ways to increase diversity in the distance-running community

A 9-year-old boy in North Carolina is running 100 miles over the course of a month to raise money for those in his area impacted by COVID-19.  

Members of the New York Mets coaching staff plan to run the TCS New York City Marathon in honor of Leighton Accardo, 8, daughter of pitching coach Jeremy Accardo. Leighton is fighting cancer. 

Molly Seidel ran a #slowmilechallenge.

And the NYT followed up with a story on the joys of jogging slowly, just in time for those aforementioned dog days. 

Speaking of which, Wednesday was National Rescue Dog Day. Peep Baxter watching the TCS New York City Marathon in this roundup of very good boys and girls who found their forever homes. 

Tuesday was Des Linden’s dog’s birthday! Yes, Boston received lots of messages from other runner dogs.

Kellyn Taylor’s.  


Meanwhile, Track&Field spoke to Jenny Simpson (pictured at top with two young Rising New York Road Runners who look just as excited as we do), and hinted that Truman might soon appear in a Rising New York Road Runners Active at Home video.
