Good Running News of the Week

Hello! We hope you have had a safe, healthy week. We at NYRR are back with another edition of Good Running News of the Week, featuring some of our favorite pro athletes, a plethora of adorable and morale-boosting animals, and, randomly, Britney Spears.

Meb Keflezighi (pictured above), 2009 New York City Marathon champion and Team for Kids ambassador, encourages runners to stay the course.

Kara Goucher received her silver medal from the 2007 World Championships in Osaka last weekend. Goucher's family and friends watched her medal ceremony live via Zoom, and she posted the video to Instagram so we could all share in the moment too:

In arguably more important news, Goucher also took her cat, Sydney, on a bike ride.

Last week, Emily Sisson showed us her new pup. This week, Jenny Simpson also got a dog (a Jack Russell terrier named Truman), and on National Puppy Day to boot!

And so did Jess Tonn! Everyone, please say hello to Clyde:

In fact, people are adopting and fostering animals now, and some rescues are actually out of dogs to foster out!

Colleen Quigley introduced her dog to Alexi Pappas' dog, and then the internet broke.

Once that was fixed, we were able to read Pappas' cover story in Sports Illustrated about training in Greece. She has been unable to travel back to the U.S. because of the travel bans imposed against 26 European countries. (Her husband, Jeremy Teischer, set up the playdate with Quigley's Pie.)

Sisson's good girl, Tori, joined her on Instagram Stories to demonstrate some exercises quarantined runners can do at home.

Emma Coburn, not to be outdone, gave us 5 exercises we can do in 5 minutes, and good boy Arthur also participated.

Gwen Jorgenson livestreamed her at-home gym workout.

Sometimes she runs, sometimes she...sets new world records? Britney Spears claimed to have broken Usain Bolt's world record in the 100-meter dash. She has sadly deleted her Instagram post announcing this feat, but Runners World was on it.

NAZ Elite had a Zoom team meeting, as we do now. Aliphine Tuliamuk made sure to check in on everyone individually, because Aliphine.

Kellyn Taylor (who, by the way, also took in two toddlers as foster children during a pandemic, NBD) wanted a specific snack, and she was going to get it.

Sara Hall experiences reverse aging during #quarantinelife.

Des Linden spoke to Women's Running about her post-Olympic Trials, post-Boston postponement plans. "There will be races again, some day," she said. She also spoke to The New York Times, where she said that in her downtime, she's enjoying her vice: Drinks with dinner.

Eliud Kipchoge praised the decision to postpone the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo until next year.

Women's Running also interviewed several athletes this week following the postponement of the 2020 Olympics. “Our dreams are not canceled, they are just postponed,” Emma Coburn said.
