Plan Your Evening and #GetOutToRun at Manhattanhenge 2019
Please Note: There is a chance for thunderstorms in the forecast for this Friday. In the case of inclement weather, all outdoor NYRR related activities will be cancelled.
So, What is Manhattanhenge?
It’s an astrological event that is unique to New York City due to the grid system of the streets. Twice a year, the sun’s descent through the sky aligns perfectly with Manhattan’s grid, creating a sunset that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.
In 2019, Manhattanhenge has so far eluded New Yorkers. The first time the event occurred, on May 29, thunderstorms blocked the view of the natural phenomenon. July 12 is the last chance to catch a glimpse this year, and NYRR wants to make sure it is one you will remember forever!
Those who were lucky enough to sign up for the sold-out run will join fellow runners at the NYRR RUNCENTER an hour before Manhattanhenge reaches its peak for a sunny 5K before making your way back to 57th street to watch the sun set together.
Worried about the timing? We’ve put together a schedule to ensure you don’t miss out on a single second of this spectacular sight.
