Virtual Racing Team Takes on the NYRR Virtual Global Running Day 1M

Earlier this week, New York Road Runners announced the start of the NYRR Virtual Racing Team, a collection of professional athletes who will be participating and competing in the NYRR Virtual Racing Series Powered by Strava.

The team got right to work on racing, as Wednesday saw a number of team members complete the NYRR Virtual Global Running Day 1M as part of their Global Running Day celebrations. Here's how they fared.

Jenny Simpson

Perhaps as a warm-up for her 1500-meter race in Rome Thursday night, Simpson took to the track for a full four laps to complete the virtual mile.

Callum Hawkins

The 2017 United Airlines NYC Half runner-up moved from 13.1 to 1.0 as he fit the virtual mile into his daily run. His quickest mile of the run—a sub-5:00 effort on mile seven—counted toward his virtual race result.

Des Linden

Like Hawkins, Linden is known primarily for her abilities at longer distances—you might have seen that she won the Boston Marathon recently—but she logged her virtual mile as part of a steady training run.

Scott Fauble

Fauble also had some success in Boston recently, as he broke the 2:10 barrier there this past April. As part of this virtual race, he threw in a quick middle section for his 10-miler on Global Running Day.
