Take a Tour of Jersey City with NYRR President and CEO Michael Capiraso
In 2019, New York Road Runners is extending into New Jersey, and NYRR President and CEO Michael Capiraso wants to take runners on a tour of all that NYRR is bringing to the Garden State. To accomplish that goal, Michael joined NYRR staffers at locations across the city to showcase NYRR’s latest offerings.
The tour began on the west side of the city, in Lincoln Park, where Michael logged a few morning miles.
In April, Lincoln Park became an NYRR Open Run site, making it the 16th park where the program has launched and the first outside of New York City’s five boroughs.

Come out to the NYRR Open Run at Lincoln Park for a free 2.7-mile run every Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Did you know that Michael is a New Jersey native? And on top of that, did you know that he was born in Jersey City?
The next stop on the tour was a quick photo op at Michael’s birthplace, at what was the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital near McGinley Square.
Soon after that, Michael made a visit to the Rising New York Road Runners students at Jotham W. Wakeman No. 6 Elementary School near Journal Square. Joining him was Rachel Pratt, NYRR’s SVP, Youth and Community Services.
Next, Michael met up with Ro Crispin, NYRR’s Director, Event Development and Production, to preview the NYRR Newport Fiesta 5K course, and to get some tips on places to check out downtown before and after the race.
Plus some time to take in the views along the route.
The tour finished—appropriately enough—near the start and finish of the NYRR Newport Fiesta 5K, at Newport Green Park, where Rising New York Road Runners will take part in activities and dash races before the 5K.
