A Groovy 4-Miler in Central Park
As the sun rose over New York City, Central Park was sent to the past for the NYRR Retro 4-Miler. Runners donned their favorite running fashions from the 70s all the way to the 90s, and the post-race festival had vintage vehicles, some funky roller skating, and live music.
We caught up with some of the day's racers to find out why they thought that the Retro run was the grooviest spot in town on this beautiful summer's day.
Tiffany Mattson, Queens, NY
"I sign up for this race on a yearly basis! I think this is one of the races that promotes more camaraderie and enjoyment and just having a good time over getting a PR."

"I want to have a healthy lifestyle, that is why I am running today. And this is my last race for the 9+1 program for the marathon!"
Christina Taborsky, Long Island, NY
"Everything retro about this race is fun! It's a race I wouldn't ever want to miss. This is my third year doing it."

"I usually run with New York Road Runners. I love to dress up, and today I got to dress up and run with my friend!"
Jill Peacock, Toronto, Canada (right)
"This is my first race ever! Joy is so inspiring so I wanted to run with her, and I am so excited that my first race I get to dress up, and that it is retro themed!"
Karina Jaramillo-Saa, Ecuador
"I hadn't been running for a long time, but I started last fall and got really hooked on it. I have been running a few races: I did the Popular® Brooklyn Half and the Pride Run, and it has just been a lot of fun! I love the community and it has really been amazing."
Alex Abrante, the Bronx (left)
"I love the old-school feel of this race!"
Devon Singletary, the Bronx (right)
"I love the entire atmosphere! The afros and the whole old-school look are what I really love about it."
