18 Miles Down with 7 Weeks to Go

A field just shy of 5,000 runners lined up for three loops of Central Park at this morning’s TCS New York City Marathon Training Series 18M. As the third and final event of the brand-new TCS New York City Marathon Training Series, the event followed the 12-miler in July and the 15-miler in August.

Today’s first finisher—Harbert Okuti from the Westchester Track Club—also broke the tape at the 15-miler last month. Despite the longer distance today, he picked up the pace from 5:34 per mile in August to 5:23 today, completing the 18 miles in 1:36:50. Marie-Ange Brumelot, representing Queens Distance Runners, took first in the women’s race in 1:53:34, good for seventh overall.

As with the previous two Training Series events, the NYRR Pace Team was at the ready to lead runners to an even effort over the park’s rolling hills—and for prospective TCS New York City Marathon runners, it was another opportunity to get to know the pacer they might be running with on November 4.

And just like the past two Training Series events have offered, runners had selfie frames waiting for them in the post-finish area, ready for finishers to snap a quick pic and tell their friends that they’re “18 Miles Closer to the TCS New York City Marathon.”

Check our results page for a full list of finishers, including 6- and 12-mile split times from each loop of today’s run.
