Allison Yamamoto

  • Group Training

Allison grew up running local 5Ks and fun runs with family and friends. Over the years, she’s expanded her training to include half marathons and marathons, including the California International Marathon and the Boston Marathon. Allison believes that running can be an opportunity to build strength, to challenge yourself, to feel alive and joyful, and to practice mindfulness and connection with others. She has experience working with individuals at various levels and with different training goals. She also specializes in 1:1 coaching for people who struggle with RED-S, chronic overexercise, and balancing nutrition and sport while finding confidence in their bodies and sustainability in movement. She looks forward to working with you toward your goals.

What program do you coach?
NYRR Group Training

How would you describe your coaching style?
I believe that the best run is any run that ends safely, so my first priority is to ensure the safety of runners. In addition, I believe that running is an opportunity to get more in tune with your body and your motivations in order to train hard and rest hard. I value directness and honesty, and I understand that each individual has their own story and life inside and outside of who they are as a runner.

What is your proudest coaching moment?
Every moment that I have been able to offer someone else support, especially in moments when they do something they didn't think possible.

What is your favorite workout to coach and why?
Intervals and speed work

How many years have you been coaching?
More than 5 years

Where is your favorite place to run in New York City?
Prospect Park

What is your favorite NYRR race?
RBC Brooklyn Half

What is your personal running motto?
I like to remind myself that running is unique because there's a moment between steps when you're technically in flight.
