Volunteer Roles
Start-Area Assignments
Start area assignments are in Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island. On race morning, participants arrive at Fort Wadsworth anxious and excited for the day ahead of them. We depend on our volunteers at the start to be warm and welcoming. You can choose bus unloading, informational ambassador, corral marshal, village marshal, or Goodwill clothing reclamation. Bus transportation for start-area volunteers is provided from Midtown Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn.
Course Assignments
Volunteers on the course have a front-row seat to the action supporting runners at fluid station locations throughout the boroughs. Volunteers are responsible for the set-up and breakdown of stations and assist in distributing fluids to thousands of thirsty runners throughout the day. This is a great assignment where you can tap into your inner cheerleader.
Finish-Area Assignments
At the finish, volunteers will be the first to celebrate runners’ accomplishments. Roles at the finish include recovery bag distribution, poncho distribution, reuniting runners with their pre-checked bags, and helping runners reunite with their loved ones at the family reunion area. A volunteer “green team” will help with recycling efforts.
Expo Assignments
Volunteer registration for the TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance will open on August 1.
