For the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, we've added deferral procedures in the event that a runner tests positive for COVID-19 prior to the race, or if a runner is living in a country with a travel ban to the United States. General Entry Runners
Cancellation Instructions
Online: Log in to your NYRR account with your email address and password. On your dashboard, scroll to the Registered Events section until you see the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon. Select "Cancel participation" and continue through the steps that follow to cancel your 2021 TCS New York City Marathon entry. The deadline to cancel online will be 11:59 p.m. ET on Saturday, November 6.
In person: Cancellations will be accepted in person at the TCS New York City Marathon Expo presented by New Balance (November 4–6, 2021).
All TCS New York City Marathon fees are nonrefundable, and you may not reenter the current year's race after you've cancelled your entry.
If you cancel in a given year (and did not cancel the previous year), you are eligible for guaranteed entry the following year. To enter the race the following year, you must claim your guaranteed entry and pay the entry fee during the application window.
Official Charity Partner Program Runners
If you apply through an Official Charity Partner and wish to cancel, please contact your charity directly for cancellation requirements. Charity entrants who meet their fundraising requirements with the charity partner may be eligible to receive guaranteed entry to the following year's TCS New York City Marathon.
International Tour Operator Runners
If you apply through an official International Tour Operator and wish to withdraw, please contact your tour operator directly. Withdrawn entrants will not receive guaranteed entry to the following year's TCS New York City Marathon or subsequent TCS New York City Marathons.

Runners Who Purchased Race Entry Fee Insurance
New York Road Runners has partnered with Allianz Global Assistance to provide race entry fee insurance for participants in the TCS New York City Marathon. “Registration Protector” from Allianz Global Assistance is available for purchase by TCS New York City Marathon registrants who are United States residents.
Entry fees are refundable if runners purchased Registration Protector and their claim is accepted by Allianz; such runners will still need to cancel their TCS New York City Marathon race entry, following the instructions below, in order to claim their guaranteed entry for the following year's race.

2021 TCS New York City Marathon Deferrals Related to the COVID-19 Pandemic
NYRR has put into place an exception to our standard event policies for participants who cannot participate due to COVID-19-related circumstances.
Please review the information below and follow the instructions to defer your entry in the timeframe indicated.
Participants Who Test Positive for COVID-19 Within 14 Days of the Event
Participants who test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of the event (on or after Monday, October 25, 2021) will have an opportunity to complete an online form to defer their entry to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon; these participants will not have the option to receive a refund for their entry.
All requests for deferral must be submitted between Monday, October 25, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. (ET) and Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. (ET). Please fill out the form below if you need to defer your entry due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Runners deferring their entry to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon will be able to claim their entry during the application window in early 2022; no action is needed at this time. A $75 administrative fee will be charged during the registration process for the 2022 event. All unclaimed entries will be forfeited.
Runners who gained entry through an Official Charity Partner in either 2020 or 2021 should contact their charity directly for confirmation of their fundraising deadline and any other fundraising-related questions.
Please maintain your test results for verification, which NYRR may request subsequently. If you are not able to provide appropriate substantiation, your deferral request will be denied.
International Participants Who Cannot Enter the U.S. Due to Current Travel Ban
The White House has announced it will lift its travel restriction to the U.S. on November 8. As the TCS New York City Marathon is scheduled to take place on November 7, runners affected by this restriction will be eligible to defer their entry to the race.
A full list of the countries banned from entering the U.S. prior to November 8 can be found on the CDC's web site.
International participants who cannot travel into the U.S. due to the U.S. Presidential proclamation banning travelers from entering the U.S. will be eligible to defer their entry to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon, and can claim their deferral during a specified period of time.
The claim window for a deferral is open from Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. ET to Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. ET; please fill out the form below if you need to defer your entry. Eligible runners will not have the option to request a refund instead of a deferred entry.
Runners deferring their entry to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon will be able to claim their entry during the application window in early 2022; no action is needed at this time. International Tour Operator runners who reside in countries impacted by the U.S. Presidential proclamation should contact their tour operator representative for deferral details.
Runners residing in countries not impacted by the U.S. Presidential proclamation banning travelers from entering the U.S. do not qualify for deferral of their entry. No refund will be issued if a runner is able to travel to and participate in the event.
