Dear Runners,

Welcome to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon! We are thrilled to have you join us for this iconic event that showcases the dynamism and resilience of our city and the diversity of our global running community. As one of the city’s most anticipated sporting events, and one of the world’s greatest sports stages, the marathon’s return to full capacity is another powerful signal of the comeback of New York City.

We are excited to welcome our field of 50,000 runners back to the streets of New York—participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds—including domestic and international athletes, top professionals, longtime marathon streakers, and first-time marathoners. As a participant this year, you will be part of a diverse group of runners who are contributing so much to our organization and to the spirit of this event. Thank you for running with us and for all that you did to get to this point.

500 official charity partners (the most ever!) will take part in the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon and help fundraise for so many important causes across the globe. NYRR’s own charity, Team for Kids, will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year and continue its great legacy of funding our youth and community running and fitness programs.

As part of NYRR’s ongoing commitment to increasing inclusivity and representation in the running community, this year’s TCS New York City Marathon will highlight some of our expanded diversity and inclusion efforts, including non-binary gender categories and prize money, resources for nursing mothers, enhanced offerings for athletes with disabilities, race fee assistance for under-resourced runners, and elevation of historically underrepresented voices in our communications.

Whether this is your first or your 50th marathon, be prepared to be inspired on Sunday, November 6. Millions of spirited spectators from across all five boroughs are getting ready to cheer you along the way.

We can’t wait to see you at the starting line and celebrate you at the finish line—good luck!

Sincerely,

Kerin Hempel Ted Metellus

Welcome Runners!

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been the title and technology sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon and a premier partner of New York Road Runners (NYRR) for the last nine years.

We sponsor the TCS New York City Marathon, along with 10 other major endurance running events globally, to inspire people around the world to live healthy and active lifestyles. This year, more than 50,000 runners will collectively take about 60,000 steps over their 26.2-mile journey through the five boroughs of New York City. With each of their three-billion steps, they’ll build on the belief that they will achieve their goal.

As NYRR’s technology consulting partner, our goal is to continue elevating the TCS New York City Marathon as the world’s most technologically advanced race through our award-winning official race app. Just as we help our customers around the world innovate to achieve their goals, we constantly strive for new ways to use technology to enhance the marathon experience for participants and fans alike.

This year, we are launching a new version of the official TCS New York City Marathon app that enables fans to track the progress of an unlimited number of runners in real time. Timing mats strategically placed around the course combined with cutting-edge TCS technology empower the TCS New York City Marathon app to deliver an iconic experience with the most accurate tracking and finish line predictions. The new app also features augmented reality to allow spectators and runners to explore the course long before Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” sends runners across the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

We are also thrilled to continue our partnership with NYRR to inspire new generations of runners and encourage families to pursue active lifestyles. As part of our sponsorship, TCS will donate $4 million to NYRR’s youth and community programs including Rising New York Road Runners, a free, nationwide program that incorporates physical education into the school day. TCS is also bringing back its goIT Marathon App Challenge during race week. This STEM education contest challenges students to develop unique app concepts that promote active lifestyles and inclusivity in sport.

In addition, our annual Team TCS Teachers Program is back! Fifty teachers who share their passion for running with their students have been awarded free race entry, a VIP race day experience, and access to TCS STEM education resources. Among them is Bobby Imamura, a high school teacher from Torrance, California who ran the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon while pushing a close friend with ALS. This year, Bobby will help another individual diagnosed with ALS experience the streets of New York City on race day. TCS is proud to support Bobby and all educators in their race journeys. I encourage you to track them on the app and cheer for them along the way.

Here’s to a great race!

Warm regards,

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon.

Running a marathon is a test of endurance, nerves and spirit, but it is also an opportunity to enjoy our great city. The 26.2-mile course takes runners through all five boroughs. It crosses the Verrazzano Narrows, the East River, and the Harlem River and finishes in Manhattan’s Central Park. Amateurs and professionals from New York City and across the globe participate in the course—and it’s not just a race, it’s a journey.

It’s a journey about overcoming odds, persistence, tenacity, and charging forward through good times and bad—it’s a journey that captures the spirit of New York City, especially in the aftermath of two years of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The challenges that we have all faced over the last two years make events like the TCS New York City Marathon even more special, and remind us how important it is to be outdoors and take part in physical activities.

I would like to congratulate the New York Road Runners for organizing the event, and to applaud all the runners taking part in it. Whatever your finish time, you have stepped up to the starting line and will give your best. New Yorkers are cheering you on!

On behalf of the City of New York, I wish you all a safe and fulfilling 2022 TCS New York City Marathon.

Sincerely,

Eric Adams, Mayor
City of New York
