Congratulations! You’ve got a place in the 2019 TCS New York City Marathon.  

Take a few moments and let it sink it. You’re set to run the world’s largest marathon! Celebrate by sharing the news on social media using #TCSNYCMarathon and tag @nycmarathon in your tweets, Instagrams, and Facebook messages. 

No doubt you have dozens of questions right now—I’ve never run a marathon before, how do I train for one? I’ve secured my place, but is there anything else I need to do? When should I book my travel? How do I get to Staten Island for the start? 

While it all can seem a bit daunting, do not worry. There’s a lot of time between now and Sunday, November 3, and we’re here to help.  

Here’s what you need to know.

Train for 26.2 Miles 

Not sure how—and when—to start training? Thankfully, you have time to prepare, and NYRR has many training options, wherever you are in the world.  

  • NYRR Virtual Training: Our TCS New York City Marathon Training Program is tailored to the course—and to your fitness level, lifestyle, and goal finish time. Simply supply some information about yourself and you’ll receive a customized 12-, 16-, or 20-week training plan that adapts to your schedule and pace as you progress through your training for 26.2. Upgrade to our “Plus” tier for direct access to the NYRR coaching staff, who will guide you through your plan via email. 
      
  • NYRR Group Training: If you’re local to New York City, check out morning and evening training sessions all over. Geared toward runners of all levels and abilities, from newcomers to experienced competitive racers, these workouts offer coaching, camaraderie, and the inspiration that comes from running with others.  
     
  • NYRR One-to-One Coaching: During each one-hour meeting, your coach will guide you toward hitting your running goals. Along the way, you’ll also learn tips on how to recover, eat right, and more. Personal coaching is another great option for those who live in or around New York City. 
      

And feel free to join the NYRR coaching staff on Facebook every Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. ET for a live chat, where you’ll have the opportunity to ask your marathon training questions from anywhere in the world.

When selecting a hotel, keep in mind:  

  • Ferries to the start of the race depart Whitehall Terminal at the southern tip of Manhattan.   
  • The finish line is located inside Central Park, near West 67th Street and Central Park West.

Experience the Magic of Marathon Week 

It’s not just about race day. Experience all the magic of marathon week in New York City with a week-long celebration of events.  

From the TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance to Marathon Monday at the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion, there are numerous events for runners to get excited about. 

You can purchase tickets for race-week events, such as the TCS New York City Marathon in a Motorcoach or Grandstand Seating (on sale later in 2019). Looking for a shakeout run or a chance to cross the famed TCS New York City Marathon start line a day early? Sign up for the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K on November 2 (and sign up family and friends, too). Add Meaning to Your Miles 

You can enhance your 26.2 miles by running with NYRR Team for Kids. Participants help support running-based fitness programs in schools and communities across the United States. NYRR’s free youth program and events platform Rising New York Road Runners helps to build students’ motivation, confidence, and desire to be physically active for life. Runners who already have entry to the 2019 race can register with TFK, and with a reduced fundraising commitment, they’ll receive training, coaching, and great race-day perks.

Run with Friends or Get Them to Volunteer 

Do you have buddies who didn’t get in? Tell them not to fret as there are still opportunities to run in 2019! Spots are available through NYRR Team for Kids or one of our more than 400 Official Charity Partners. Runners outside the United States can enter through one of our International Tour Operators

Alternatively, your loved ones can sign up to volunteer at the event or join the estimated 1 million spectators who line the streets of the five boroughs on NYC’s best day.

Keep an eye on your inbox for the latest TCS New York City Marathon updates. These emails contain important information and action items, like when and how to select your baggage and transportation options. Runners can make their selections starting late July.
