Behind the Scenes with the NYRR Warehouse Staff

With Halloween falling three days before TCS New York City Marathon race day, the New York Road Runners warehouse staff was hard at work packing their own versions of "trick or treat" bags on Thursday, filling up recovery bags for runners in this weekend's Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K and the TCS New York City Marathon.

Thanks to these staffers, runners will have plenty of ways to refuel and rehydrate after finishing their races, as they worked on filling more than 10,000 bags for the Dash and another 50,000-plus for the Marathon.

On Sunday, Marathon finishers will have a post-race meal waiting for them in the recovery bag presented by Hospital for Special Surgery; inside, they'll find Poland Spring® Brand 100% Natural Spring Water, Gatorade® Recover Protein Shake, a New York State McIntosh apple, Snyder's of Hanover pretzels, Honey Stinger Organic Cracker Bars, and Gatorade® Thirst Quencher.

And just in case they're feeling a little sore after five boroughs' worth of running, runners will also receive a gel packet of Biofreeze to sooth their muscles.

But that's not all the warehouse staff has been up to this week. In the lead-up to race day, they've been organizing numerous elements that play a role in the race-day experience. At the time of this article's writing, they were organizing the mile and kilometer markers to be placed on the course on Sunday morning. Be on the lookout for these signs as you race through the blue, green, or orange wave in Brooklyn!

Beyond Marathon week, these members of Team NYRR also keep track of signage and other equipment for all of the races NYRR hosts, week in and week out. Any time you see a start or a finish tower, or if you've rung the 9+1 program completion bell after a race this year, just know that this team keeps these items in prime condition for race day, and oversees that each item makes the trip from the warehouse site in the Bronx out to the race course once it's showtime.

Be sure to pick up your pre-race materials for the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line 5K and the TCS New York City Marathon at the TCS New York City Marathon Expo Presented by New Balance, open Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (last bib pickup at 7:00 p.m.), and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
