Brogan Austin
Brogan Austin stunned the running world in December by winning the USATF Marathon Championships after reeling in leader Matt Llano during the final stretch to take the title in a career-best time of 2:12:39. The victory came a month after he broke the course record to win the Indianapolis Monumental Half Marathon in 1:02:39.
In his NYRR racing debut at the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half, Austin took sixth place in 1:02:41.
Prior to winning his first national title, Austin’s biggest accomplishments included winning the Drake Relays 5K in 2013, qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2014 and running the U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon in 2016. His next big major goal is to qualify for the U.S. Olympic marathon team in 2020.
Austin holds a degree in math and education from Drake University and currently works full-time as an IT project manager. He is a self-described cereal connoisseur who does most of his training on a treadmill indoors during Iowa’s harsh winters. He is coached by Tom Schwartz, whose nickname is “Tinman” and who also coaches up-and-comers Drew Hunter and Sam Parsons.
