Tamirat Tola
Tamirat Tola will be aiming for his first TCS New York City Marathon podium finish after placing fourth in his previous two appearances in 2018 and 2019. He finished third at both the 2023 London Marathon and 2021 Tokyo Marathon.
Tola is a two-time medalist at the World Athletics Championships Marathon, winning gold in 2022 in a championship-record time of 2:05:36 in Eugene, Oregon. He previously won silver at the event in 2017. In 2016, he won bronze in the 10,000 meters at the Rio Olympics and helped Ethiopia to the team gold medal at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships.
He trains in Ethiopia with former Boston Marathon champion Lemi Berhanu. At the 2023 Dubai Marathon, Tola’s wife, World Cross Country Championships medalist Dera Dida, won the women’s race while his younger brother, Abdisa Tola, triumphed in the men’s race.
